I have a BA in Political Science and focused my time in undergraduate school on studying and analyzing American political theory and thought.  During this time, I was fortunate to study under Dr. Edward J. Erler, one of the most renowned modern day conservative constitutional scholars.  I especially enjoyed spending full semesters in detailed analysis of such political thinkers as Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Abraham Lincoln, and those who even earlier shaped the foundational thinking of those men like Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and the classical Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle. Through this incredible legal education, I was able to develop a keen ability to think critically and develop rational and structured arguments- both, in my mind, precursors to a successful career as a lawyer. I was elected by my peers as President of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society, thereafter leading our chapter to win a national Best Chapter Award.

Similarly, I was blessed with a phenomenal legal education in my small Christian law school at the University of La Verne, where I finished near the top of my class.  While in law school, I excelled academically, with American Jurisprudence awards in numerous subjects, and served as a writer on the school’s law review, the Journal of Juvenile Law.  In my third and final year, I was elected by my peers as student body President and participated in faculty and board meetings as the student representative.

I have enjoyed a 15-year career as a civil practitioner.

Before taking the bar exam, I clerked at a boutique firm specializing in advising businesses and civil litigation.  After graduating I promoted to attorney and was mentored in litigation techniques.  Through detailed research and thoughtful development and formation of sound legal arguments, I carved a niche in expeditiously reaching favorable outcomes for our clients in litigation.

Confident in my abilities and commitment to never be outworked, I started my own private practice, focusing on business and corporate development and civil litigation.  I took on a very diverse mix of clients and cases, including an array of real estate matters, business disputes, interpersonal disputes, bankruptcies, family law matters, and misdemeanor criminal matters.  As my practice grew, I served as outside counsel to many companies.

My experiences with effectively advising corporate clients led to an in-house counsel opportunity with an emerging publicly traded holding company with multi-national subsidiaries and assets including a Netherlands private equity firm and a German lithium-based battery manufacturer.  As the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel, I oversaw all aspects of the legal activities of the family of companies, including corporate governance, executive and board guidance, public company reporting to the SEC, investor relations, human resources, transactional and contract negotiation and preparation, intellectual property strategy and maintenance, compliance with domestic and foreign laws, and litigation.

I thereafter was appointed by the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia as the Managing Officer/Chief Restructuring Officer for a battery manufacturer in a Chapter 11 restructuring. Together with managing the company’s operations (in concert with the court’s supervision), a large part of my role was in participating in the Chapter 11 litigation.

I acted as General Counsel to a privately-owned, lithium-based battery manufacturer located in Lexington, Kentucky.  In addition to the exhaustive list of duties of a General Counsel to a developing stage company, this role included managing litigation, political planning and interaction with the Governor of Kentucky and the other state, local, and federal officials.

I’ve continued to run my private practice for several years.  I don’t advertise for clients and my practice all stems from referrals from my past clients and colleagues.  In light of my decision to run for office, I’ve suspended my private practice and am 100% dedicating myself to meeting my constituents and earning their votes.
